Here are some ideas of what you can do on 20th October 2008 to create local interest in your community for a default 20 mph speed limit for residential streets :-

Write or email all your local councillors asking what they are doing meet the needs of local communities for lower speeds. Use one of our templates.

Write or email all your local councillors and MP asking what they are doing meet the needs of local communities for lower speeds. Use one of our templates. Send copies to the local press.
Create a petition and get names from parents waiting to collect their children from schools. Point out that you want to protect children not only around the schools but on their complete journey walking or cycling to home.
Ensure that when driving in residential roads you do so at a maximum speed of 20 mph.
Do a commuting challenge with one person driving to the town centre never going over 20 mph in non A/B roads and the other person going at the prevailing speed of the traffic. measure the two times to show how little difference it makes to journey times. Then publish the results to the local press.

But these are just our ideas. If you have any more of your own please email us and we will add them to this page.
